Non-Resident On-Call Shifts – A Hoot of a Guide

Jen Muggleton,
Customer Support at Locum’s Nest

Are you wanting to post non-resident on-call shifts? We’ve got you covered! If you have the right permissions, you can mark shifts as non-resident on-call when publishing them. (If you need this permission adding, contact us at support@locumsnest.co.uk) These shifts are easy to spot! Just look for the little phone symbol on the shift, a little visual to help them stand out. Candidates will also see this on the mobile app, so everyone’s kept in the loop, no need for guesswork!

How to set it up?

When publishing the shift, head to the ‘Name shift and details’ section. Simply tick the checkbox labelled ‘non-resident on-call elements.’ This small but mighty step ensures you’ll have spaces to enter both the On-Call and Call-Out rates when setting up the shift. As with regular shifts, you can split these rates into core and unsocial hours if needed.

The importance of marking non-resident shifts

Flagging a shift as a non-resident on-call is more than just a formality. It ensures candidates can accurately record any call-out periods directly on their timesheets. By adding this flexibility, you’re giving them a seamless way to log their time—and saving yourself a lot of back-and-forth.

What happens after a candidate completes a non-resident on-call shift?

Once the timesheet is submitted, you’ll spot the phone symbol again, this time on the timesheet itself. It’ll be accompanied by a detailed breakdown of on-call and call-out times, making it easy to review and approve.
